Stress Relief Studies – The Best Ways To Get Your Stress Under Control?
Sunday, June 20th, 2010Different Ways To Beat Stress
Sunday, June 20th, 2010I really like this idea and have used it several times myself! Yell! True, screaming at the top of your lungs – as hard as you can. Although this may not be feasible in your house, it works very well when you’re in your car with the windows closed. Uttered a guttural cry from deep inside. It’s liberating! Sing. As we have said in the previous chapter, music can be extremely beneficial in getting rid of stress. Think how you may feel better when you belt out “Copacabana” at the top of your lungs! Who cares if you can not make a song? You do this for you! Take a new hobby like knitting or crochet. Do not worry about being good at it. This process is beneficial. Remain seated while performing repetitive movements is calming and stabilizing for many people. It may be time to gather your thoughts. Start a garden. Even in apartments can do. Inside in pots, pots on the patio, pots, a small spot in your yard. There is little work for the establishment. Taking care of plants, fruits, vegetables, flowers and watching them grow, bloom, or yield food is rewarding. Avid gardeners say working a garden is the best way to control stress and anxiety. An added benefit is the creation of a more beautiful, restful environment. Playing with a dog or a cat. Experts say pet owners have longer lives and fewer stress symptoms than non-pet owners. Play with your pet to provide good vibration – for you and the animal! It is a form of social interaction without pressure to meet the expectations of anyone! Look at the stars and the moon. It can be a very humbling experience to put on a blanket with your hands behind your head and look towards the night sky. It’s more humiliating is just beautiful and relaxing! Just the other night, my little son and I got a blanket and lay in the yard to watch the moon rising behind the clouds and watching the stars. There are only three, so it’s a fascinating experience for him, but looking at the sky through his eyes is even more fascinating to me. I could feel all my worries melt as we chatted about the astronauts a chance to see the end of the scale of stars and the universe while we remain so small. When you look at the vastness of the sky, you realize that our problems are minimal compared to that. I also have a great comfort to see that a bright star in the sky that is always over my house. When the mother of my best friend died, we left the car after the entrance of his visitation rights and five years old my friend and I stopped to gaze at the stars. She noted a particular star and said: “It’s my grandmother. She is our guardian angel now.” Every time I see this star, I know that Cheryl is there and it will help me get through anything! Give yourself a little comfort food. But be careful, or overeating can become your stress. Enjoy in moderation and feel better. I like mashed potatoes and gravy and macaroni and cheese. They are my comfort food. But I make sure I do not overdo it. I give myself just enough to put on soothing feeling. Swing. Remember the feeling of sitting inside this little piece of leather on the pitch you swing back and forth and feel the wind whipping through your hair? Do it! If you do not swing in your yard, go to a playground and remember to pump your legs back and forth to see how high you can go. It’s liberating! Take a bubble bath by candlelight. Even you guys out there can enjoy a hot bath bathed in the soft glow of candlelight. Put your head back, feel the bubbles and hot water, and let your stress go right down the drain when you pull the plug!

Ways of Stress Management
Thursday, March 11th, 2010Our life and health is highly influenced by stress. Stress leads to an overall imbalance of the human psychosomatic system. It can effect your health very badly as it may cause troubles ranging from headache to very serious heart attack.
Stress is actually associated with two factors, one is external and another is internal. Everything related to the world surrounding us can fall into the category of external factors, such as our jobs, relationships, home and family, social customs, diseases, etc. On the other hand the internal factors, as the name suggests, is connected to our physical or bodily functions. Since stress that keeps on increasing can have a dangerous effect so it is vitally important to go for stress reduction.
There are many stress management tools that focuses on the reduction in the external and internal factors that add up to stress. If used properly, these tools can effectively help you in reducing your stress thereby keeping all the stress related problems at bay. Some of these techniques are as follows:
- Exercise is a very good stress relief tool. Physical exercise makes us healthy both in physical as well as emotional terms. It helps us to maintain a healthy balance in the holistic sense. If you are physically fit and healthy, you feel better within yourself. This is good for your mind and helps in developing the strength your mind requires and eventually such mental confidence equips you to fight against stressful situations.
- You need to do some relaxation in between your work schedule. A small nap in between your work is very good for stress reduction. Though, if you do not have that much of time to take a nap then just keep your eyes closed for some time. This will help you to be calm and stress free. You also want to make sure you are getting an appropriate amount of sleep at night. This is the time your body uses to recharge.
- Meditation: Meditation is said to be the best stress management tool to get a total relaxation of both body and the mind. There are thousands of meditation techniques. You just need to practice any one of them to experience stress reduction.
Apart from the above-mentioned stress management tools there are many other informal ways of stress reduction. There are many who love to play out door games that help them in stress busting. Lots of people enjoy being with children after a stressful work day. Some feel that listening to soothing music or watching television for some time is a good stress relief tool.
Stress Relief Music: Discover the Amazing Ways it Promotes Relaxation
Thursday, March 11th, 2010Stress relief music has a profound effect on our minds and bodies. Listening to soothing music can ease physical tension and mental anxiety, slow breathing and heartbeat and lower blood pressure. The accompanying relaxed state is highly beneficial to health and well-being.
It is not a mystery that music influences our emotions and state of mind. The fact that music has such a strong impact on us is usually taken for granted. We tend not to think about it. We just know it does.
Exactly how does stress relief music bring about relaxation? The answers may be surprising.
· Slows heart rate and breathing – When you listen to a piece of music you are fond of, your mood immediately changes. When hearing such a song, do you find yourself excitedly saying, “Oh, I love that song”! What happens when you hear a peaceful, slow song that is soothing to you? You relax, tension slides from your body and your mind quiets. This occurs because stress relief music slows heart rate and breathing. As long as beat of the music is slow and steady, your heart rate and breathing will relax into the musical piece.
· Influences brain waves – In a relaxed state, brain wave frequency is alpha. Listening to stress relief music actually influences our brain function by changing brain wave frequency. During times of stress, brain waves are beta or theta which are higher frequency. The brain actually moves toward the frequency it is experiencing. If you listen to relaxing music, especially if it is intertwined with binaural alpha tones, anxiety will ease and tension will be released.
· Lowers stress hormones – Stress relief music is being used more and more by doctors and practitioners. Studies have found when patients listen to their favorite music during a procedure, they have lowered stress hormones in their bloodstreams. The reason is music relaxes the body and calms anxiety. Many dentists use music to ease the pain and anxiety of their patients. Massage therapists, reiki practitioners, acupuncturists and hypnotists use music to aid relaxation and healing of their patients. When stress hormones are lowered through relaxation, healing is enhanced and optimized.
It is quite amazing the impact music has on our mood, emotions and brain function. The beauty of stress relief music is that it is an easy, enjoyable way to relax and unwind. You can listen to relaxing music just about anywhere. It is a wonderful tool for easing stress and promoting healing.
How to Relieve Stress: 7 Ways to Relieve Stress Today
Wednesday, March 10th, 2010There are plenty of resources which teach you how to relieve stress and it is no surprise. The world is a very stressful place these days. We are so busy being busy we have little time for anything else.
We are the result of a world gone crazy. Think about it. We run around like crazy all day just so we don’t have enough time. Money, success, careers and family are what drives us to keep going day in and day out and as a result we have become ‘stressed out’; ticking time bombs ready to blow at any minute.
The symptoms of stress can be fatal leading to disease, chronic illness, hypertension and even heart attack. Half the time we don’t even know the kind of stress we put ourselves through. We have built in mechanisms in our bodies that help us when we are confronted with stressful situations. We were not however supposed to deal with stress all the time.
So how does one go about relieving the effects of stress on your body? In a moment you will get a chance to read 5 tips to effective stress relief but before you do there are two things that you should be doing on a daily basis to help you deal with stress.

There are situations in life that are unavoidable but this should be the exception and not be happening all the time. A little planning can be the best thing you can do to keep your stress levels down. Remember that your life could be on the line.
The second thing is to drink less caffeine and if you are a smoker to cut back, or better yet, quit smoking. Caffeine and Nicotine put a lot of stress on your body. Where possible try to avoid them.

1. Regular exercise
Regardless of what your definition of exercise is. It could be jogging or taking a long brisk walk or even doing a workout at the gym. What is critical is that you exercise on a regular basis and that you are relaxing when doing so. If you are not enjoying the exercise you are doing then there is really no point.
2. Relaxation and meditation
I know it sounds easy to say just relax or chill out but most people don’t know how to. You don’t have to know the art of meditation in order to just get a little uninterrupted time for yourself on a consistent basis.
3. Treat yourself

Stress – Some Ways Not To Deal With It
Saturday, March 6th, 2010There are any number stress management techniques and for coping with stress in general and dealing with both the physical and emotional causes for stress. There are techniques for both short-term symptoms of stress and even long-term or chronic symptoms of stress are possible.
There are also a certain amount of self employed techniques that are actually or can be counter productive in the quest for a cure. The following are some of the more typical errors.
In an attempt to alleviate the tension and worry that accompany stress, some individuals can head down the wrong path will unwittingly engage in self-destructive behavior.
The type of stress that can lead to being short-tempered and cause the individual behave angrily toward a friend or family member can many times be heightened by excessive alcohol drinking or even coffee drinking that results in a high intake of caffeine. Many times these dots aren’t connected and the cycle continues causing more stress symptoms more often.
Lack of sleep or chronic lack of sleep (insomnia) is one of the most common causes of stress. Again, the theme here is the cycle of stress itself. When something is troubling you, and you are physically uncomfortable, it’s difficult to relax enough to sleep. And when you don’t get enough sleep and become fatigued your patience grows shorter and you ability to reason becomes inhibited and thus the stress continues. During this type of a stress cycle, when you do manage to fall asleep, it’s often interrupted during the night, or not the type of deep sleep that is genuinely restful.
A heightened focus on problem solving is natural and generally a sign of good mental health. But completely obsessing, even in the face of serious issues, is counter-productive. Try to step outside the problem as if you are consoling someone or a friend who is faced with the problem. You would be concerned, of course and this will give you a different perspective of the situation. We’re often much better at maintaining objectivity when the problem belongs to someone else.
Some people try to cope with stress by doing the right thing for the wrong reasons. One of the techniques used to combat stress is the ability to focus on something else that takes your mind away from a stressful situation. However, burying oneself into projects at work or school as way of shifting focus away from problems at home may at best provide a change of focus, but ultimately is not a productive way to deal with the stress at home in this situation. Avoidance can only be partially successful, and only temporarily at that.
Some problems do go away on their own and ignoring (or more accurately not over-reacting to them) can be a viable strategy. But a reality check is the key here… the circumstances combined with the internal evaluations that lead to chronic stress do not disappear simply because we’re not thinking about them.
A temporary break to gain perspective and get the emotions under control is healthy. Hiding one’s head in the sand is not.
Fundamentally, all these incorrect and unhelpful methods have a common root. Reality doesn’t go away when some aspects of it are inconvenient or unpleasant.
Life is filled with obstacles placed in your way. The existence of those hurdles and the need to overcome them – when combined with doubts about our ability to do so – leads to stress. Learning to correctly evaluate and deal with life’s obstacles leads to gaining confidence in one’s ability to do so and with each hurdle overcome one’s self confidence grows stronger… and stress stays on vacation.
