Stress – Driving Them Away

It’s time for morning rush hour, and the blood has reached boiling point. You have exactly five minutes to get to work and you discover a major traffic tie along the highway. You see the orange pylons and suddenly realize you’re stuck in a construction zone. The stress of being late for work seems overwhelming. Or, maybe 5:30 p. Mr. and you run to make your four years to the day care. A car turns suddenly in front of you and you slam on the brakes. You barely avoid an accident. Again, your stress level increases and you are struggling to cope. In today’s world, driving is a major cause of stress. Many of us spend countless hours stuck in traffic jams. There seems to be more cars on the road than ever. In many American cities, traffic problems are a public safety issue. And at times, one might think that if drivers are less courteous than they have ever been. Another source of stress is the care and maintenance of your vehicle. You have to worry about paying insurance fees, inspection fees, rising gas prices, bills and basic maintenance. Financial stress involved in keeping a car on the road can seem overwhelming. Also, you may be dealing with a car that has consistently failures. If you feel as if your car is not secure, it can be a very stressful experience. For parents, children can be quite stressful time a driver. You may have to referee fights between the kids while you drive. Or you may have to find innovative ways to keep children occupied during long journeys. Staying well-nourished children in the car can also be very stressful. In desperation, you can take in a drive-thru, where the wait seems unbearable. the stress of driving is a fact of modern life. There will always potholes, drivers of courtesy, cranky passengers. You will inevitably encounter traffic jams on the way to work, shop or school. There will always be times when you grip the wheel, wondering if you’ll be able to do so. If you can not eliminate the stress of the road, there are means of repression. For example, you might consider investing in some CD based. Classical music can be very soothing on a day of driving difficult. Or you want to listen to a CD of nature sounds that you try to negotiate your way through traffic. If you do not have a CD player, cassette are another possibility. In addition, if you can not afford to purchase tapes or CDs at a record store, be sure to buy a garage sale or church bazaar. You can even borrow tapes and CDs at your local library. You will see that you are better able to manage the stress of driving with a few pleasant sounds from your car radio. Another thing you might consider changing your itinerary. If you inevitably end up in traffic jams on the highway, consider using residential streets instead. While you may find that your travel time is longer, you may also find that stress is reduced considerably when your route is changed. Another technique that many drivers use is to start with five to ten minutes earlier than necessary. This way, you do not operate in such a lack of time. Those five or ten minutes can make a difference to your daily commute. In addition, you might enjoy having these extra minutes for you upon arrival at school or at work. Driving is a daily chore necessary for most of us. The trick is to make it as pleasant as possible to reduce our stress levels. Invest in a comfortable seat cushion or a folder of relaxation can do wonders for our state of mind. Singing or whistling in the car can be another effective stress-reducer. Playing games with your children like trying to spot the license plates outside the state may be yet another effective way of reducing stress. Chances are you will not be able to reduce your stress level during the night. Many of us have become very used to the stress on the road. However, trying to make our journeys as pleasant as possible, we can go a long way to reduce stress-induced behavior.
