Coaching Basketball Is Not Always Fun And Games
By admin on July 28, 2010, 10:01 amI found myself volunteering to coach basketball, a game that I have almost nothing new. Shortly after I found myself with work, a parent approached me and asked what kind of coaching style that I use. After I managed to clear up the blank look on my face and stammer out some lame answer, I drove quickly to the privacy of my own home to avoid the larger issues, and therefore, do not let my inexperience be known, because I knew after that question that I was being on my head.
At the time, I was probably more suited to coach football, basketball, but I was treated. One of my friends who played basketball at school told me that his coach had used a practical style of coaching. The coach has played with athletes, showing them different techniques to use in which situation to use them in, etc.. . However, he also stressed that coaching basketball is more than just play basketball with the children, as his coach did, but coaching is also on the teaching of basic skills that players will use for life, and teamwork.
Feeling even more desperate and confused after this conversation I start to do heavy research on the topic of basketball coaching. I immediately realized that a large list of references exist to help me, gave me a great sense of relief. I never thought of such concepts as team play, sportsmanship and sharing in regard to sports training before, but from my reading, I began to familiarize myself with the themes and ideas. I quickly learned that basketball is more than just putting a ball through a hoop.
As part of my research, I started reading articles that focus on building skills and level of confidence in young athletes while coaching. I did my best to absorb everything, but always felt I could be a bit out of my element coaching a basketball team. I had to constantly reassure me that I could do. The whole experience taught me that finally before you can coach other people, you should be able to coach you, but I am advanced. “
I’ve been coaching for six weeks. I think I did a fair job of helping my players to gain skills and confidence levels that they can use on the ground and in the real world. This experience taught me a lot about myself and the coaching. Regarding coaching, I learned that it is not all fun and games, but a huge responsibility, but I think I’m ready for the challenge. After all, my team is 5 and 1.
While the coach of a team may seem a very attractive job for many a sports fan, it is not easy. I only coach in junior high and it is exhausting and stressful. I can not imagine what it’s like at the professional level, and I do not want. If you are interested in being a coach, make sure and give it serious consideration.
