Nunnelly, TN (PRWEB) December 20, 2011

For many people, the holidays are the highlight of the year. But for others, this time of year brings up emotions that can be difficult to manage. Faced with the feelings of loneliness and disappointment that sometimes accompany the holidays, men and women with love and sex addictions may feel more compelled to escape or act out, warn the sex addiction specialists at The Ranch rehabilitation center in Tennessee.

Holiday movies and songs depict the holidays as a time for being surrounded by loved ones. Individuals with sex and love addictions may feel a particularly strong longing to be connected with others or to be in a relationship, not necessarily for love but to avoid being alone. Romanticized visions of a kiss to ring in the New Year or receiving the perfect holiday gift from a love interest – which often are not played out in reality – can prompt reckless and harmful behaviors in those with sex and love addictions.

“The holidays can bring up unforeseen emotions that leave people feeling ‘less than,” said Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, the internationally known author, addiction specialist and educator who developed the men’s and women’s relationship and sex addiction programs at The Ranch. “As a result, those with addictions or emotional challenges may seek out a person or experience that makes them feel special, important and valued.”

As the holidays approach, people look forward to the break from routine and the time off school or work to finish projects and visit friends and family. But for addicts, unstructured time, particularly when spent alone, can be a trigger of its own. Rather than using the extra time constructively, sex and love addicts may become increasingly anxious. In a misguided effort to get their emotional needs met, they may begin fantasizing about and executing plans to fill their down time with anonymous hook-ups, affairs, serial dating and other harmful behaviors.

“Around this time of year, some sex and love addicts are faced with a dangerous combination of an urge to escape and more opportunities to engage in risky behaviors,” Weiss explained. “Heightened emotions, family dynamics and other factors make it a stressful time, which can be further complicated by an increase in unstructured free time.”

In addition to being a season for giving, the holidays are a season for receiving. Diets, budgets and rules get set aside just long enough to indulge in decadent treats, gift-buying and holiday parties.

“Normal reality is suspended during the holidays,” said Weiss. “While most people use this time to indulge on food, spending and parties, sex and love addicts may feel entitled to indulge in a different way – one that includes compulsive sexual experiences, affairs, online hookups and other risky behaviors.”

In many ways, the holidays are the best time to get help for sex and love addiction. Rather than allowing loneliness, isolation and disappointment to prevail, which can escalate unhealthy behaviors, treatment grants a reprieve from holiday stresses so that sex and love addicts can focus on getting well.

“We know the holidays are a time when addictive and compulsive behaviors escalate. When reflecting on the past year, many people realize that they have wanted and needed to get help for some time,” said Weiss. “There is no better time to begin sex or love addiction treatment and no better gift than to be in a safe place receiving help and support.”

With the increased demand of today’s rapid paced society, often we find that our immune systems become more compromised than ever before, our bodies suffer from a number of vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and the effects of all stress types can manifest themselves in a number of ways. However, getting help with stress and using holistic medicines, natural nutrition, and other alternative medicine practices can play in important role in our physical, mental, and emotional health.

While many of use are not taught at an early age how to manage stress in our daily lives, we often find ourselves looking for help with stress later in life. As the pressures of our daily demands at work, home, or school mount, we find that managing stress and learning new stress management techniques are vital to our performance and well being. The effects that being overstressed can have on the body can cause symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as decrease our body’s own immune response, which can make us more prone to certain illnesses and diseases. In addition, the cortisol effect caused by stress in our bodies can deplete our bodies’ essential nutrients and cause a number of vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

Those who have learned to manage different stress types through holistic medicines and natural nutrition have already discovered that these methods help with stress and that stress management is essential to greater peace of mind, wellness, productivity, and performance. While managing stress is no easy task, and there is no magic pill that can eliminate the psychological stress that we all can face daily, learning about natural nutrition and incorporating a few simple stress relief techniques in your daily life can have a profound impact.

When it comes to daily exercise, nearly all forms of exercise will improve your body’s sense of balance and help with stress, but it has also been proven that methods such as Yoga or Tai Chi can also improve your moods, provide greater help with stress, and allow you to remain more at peace throughout the day. While these forms of exercise are easy to do and can be performed virtually anywhere without the added cost of equipment, you can also incorporate a simple meditation or prayer time into your daily routine that will also help with stress and allow you to remain more focused. In addition, hypnosis therapy has also proven to be beneficial at centering the mind and can also help with stress throughout the day.

Natural nutrition is also a great way to help with stress and ensure that your body is performing at its peak potential to ward off the threat of illness or disease. In today’s society, we are inadvertently exposed to a number of toxins in the form of preservatives, caffeine, and sugar that can all threaten our physical health. Eating natural foods is the best way to ensure that your body’s resources are best spent fighting off other forms of bacteria that can cause illness. Supplementing with fish oil or consuming foods that are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids can also help with stress, as they reduce the cortisol reaction in the body caused by stress. Another nutritional factor to help with stress is to ensure that you are eating the proper amount of B vitamins in your daily diet.

Discover the natural secrets to stress relief.

We experience a variety of small environmental stresses, job stresses and relationship stresses every day. Mainly, these stresses range from the frustrations of commuting to badly organized workspaces, poor ergonomics, un-cooperative colleagues, and numerous others. While these are small things, they can all add up to make life more stressful – we call this “background stress”. Therefore, when our stress becomes too much that it affects us deeply and/or negatively, we are referring about distress.

After numerous research, scientist believe that stress increases many kinds of cancers, one of the most prominent is breast cancer risk. For me, I believe, that stress increases all risks including family scandal, coronary disease and job loss. In fact, you have a lot more control on your stress level than you might have thought. Just by staying in simple realization that you are in control of your life is the foundation of stress management. Simply concentrate on what makes you feel calm, serene and in control. The most important way to control and manage stress effectively is when we approach it with a clear, calm and positive mind.

Learn to do some meditation to calm and relax your mind and thoughts. Equip your meditation process with proper deep breathing exercises. Sit in a comfortable pose or simply lie flat on your bed. Close your eyes and imagine yourself at the beach or floating on the ocean. Breathe in very deeply until your stomach is inflated, breathe out very slowly until your stomach is deflated. Keep doing this repetitively while focusing on the movement of your stomach when you breathe in deeply and breathe out deeply.

Your body will soon start to relax and go into a peaceful state. Meditation and breathing exercises is proven to overcome stress effectively. Do meditation and breathing exercises twice a day or do them whenever you feel stress and worry. You will definitely benefit considerably if you practise meditation and breathing exercises daily.

Learn to manage your time pacefully and effectively. Modern life, especially people of the current generation’s life requires much of modern men and women. And the main prize for it is stress. Draw out a big picture of what you need to do everyday, like tasks and duties. Keep a To-Do Lists. Simply put, To-Do Lists are prioritized lists of all the tasks that you need to carry out. This list should organize everything you have to do properly, with the most important tasks at the top of the list, and the least important tasks at the bottom.

Next, try to narrow down your list of tasks and duties by dividing them into smaller tasks and do them one at a time. In addition, you have to make sure you have enough time to rest and relax while doing your tasks.

Advantages of Time Management

You will be able to function pretty well if you learn to use your time management skills well. In addition, as you master these skills, you will discover that you can actually take full control of your workload and tasks, and say byebye to the often tremendous stress of work overload in your job.

Make time to listen to quality relaxing music to calm your mind and body. It is proven that soothing and sedative music will bring down the stress level considerably and make a person less prone to stress and anxiety disorder.

Listening to music like classical music is a great way to dis-stress and relax. Sit at your comfortable couch or lie on your bed and simply listen to good music to relax. Listening to music does wonders to alleviate stress. Do this daily and your mind will be able to become immune to stress and worry.

Please note that everyone has different tastes in music. Simply listen to music that you are comfortable with. Never try to force yourself to listen to relaxation music that you do not like as this may create stress, not alleviate it.

Music is always been known to be a natural great healer. Music can change your mood and is acknowledged to be able to relieve stress, anxiety and depression. Playing music in the background while we are working, seemingly unaware of the music itself, has been found to reduce the stress.

Combining music with relaxation therapy was more effective than doing relaxation therapy alone. Hence, take a time off to listen to soothing and relaxation music to make your life less stressful.

Read more of our other articles on stress reduction techniques and natural ways to cure anxiety attack and depression at www.managingstresstechniques.com

Life today is filled with various kinds of stresses and strains. All of us are trying to cope up with one or the other kind of stress. While most of us manage to keep our chin up and swim through our personal sea of troubles, there are those among us who simply succumb to it and fall prey to the petty issues of life.

The presence of stress and tension robs us of our natural vitality and enthusiasm for life, rendering us dull and grumpy, far reducing our levels of efficiency in all aspects of our life. If we want to start leading a truly happy life, we first need to free our mind of all that accumulated tension. For the body to remain healthy, we first need to control our mind. A healthy mind alone gives rise to a healthy body. We will never be able to achieve our goal until and unless we learn to relax and let go of our own bondage of negativity.

What exactly is relaxation?

Relaxation is not about stopping all activity and shirking work. Quite on the contrary, it is about getting rid of all the negative energies within you, thereby optimizing your energies to get the most possible success and happiness out of your life. Relaxation is all about understanding and accepting the various challenges thrown at you, with a balanced outlook, without getting upset at the slightest provocation.

You can get your life back on track by employing various methods of relaxation, some of which are discussed in detail below:

• Meditation

Meditation, which is about mental control and exercising the mind to remain still, is indeed one of the best ways to manage stress. While meditation does not help in changing life circumstances, what is does is to teach you enough mind control to tackle difficult and unexpected events in your life. This ancient relaxation technique, practically a way of life with the people of the Indian sub-continent and the whole of the Orient, is a method of focusing oneself on the ‘Higher Self’, thus remaining unruffled by mundane, day-to-day events of life.

Meditation is best performed in complete silence, controlling breathing patterns in a certain prescribed method.

• Relaxation by way of visualization

You can effectively use projected mental images to ease your way out of mental and physical stress. Practicing visualization techniques for relaxation helps bestow tremendous peace on the mind. For instance, if you feel stressed out at work and are dying for a break, you could close your eyes and picture yourself watching a glorious waterfront sunset at some exotic destination. It will immediately relax your mind and put it to rest at least for the time being!

• Progressive relaxation

With this technique, you can achieve total relaxation by consciously tensing and releasing your muscles one by one, giving your body a sense of complete ease and comfort. This technique is especially useful to tackle several types of common aches and pains.

• Biofeedback

Biofeedback is a recent and much-debated technique to achieve relaxation, which requires you to observe and formally record your mind-body responses with the help of certain medical equipment. While there are many who swear by this method, there are an equal number of other experts who do not at all recommend this technique of mind control.

The above are only a handful of techniques you can employ for relaxation. Here is a word of caution. Do visit your healthcare professional before you choose any one method. There are some mental control techniques that require you to get a clean health chit from your doctor, especially if you are suffering from some medical disorder. Some techniques might actually end up changing your physiology in some way if taken to the extreme. So always be moderate in your approach and go slow and steady with your progress.

Stress is a common problem – everyone deals with it to some extent in the normal course of their life. Small amounts of stress can even be positive things. It can put your body and mind into a more productive state, helping you get through the task at hand.
If stress continues long term, however, it can lead to a number of more serious problems which can continue to escalate if not addressed.
One of the difficulties with managing stress is that as it becomes more severe, it becomes more and more difficult to deal with it. This can lead to a cyclical problem, where more stress is caused by not being able to manage the current stress properly. This can lead to becoming burned out and tired, simply making it even more hard to handle.
Different people have different ways of dealing with stress and anxiety and some people have a higher tolerance than others. Some of the most common triggers for stress are financial problems, medical problems, and family issues.
Some of the warning signs of stress include the following:
- Constant feelings of worry
- Fatigue or lack of energy
- Depression
- Chest pain
- Difficulty breathing
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Nausea and stomach pain
There are a number of treatments for stress. A person with any of the above symptoms should consult with their doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. They will often conduct an interview with you to try to determine what underlying issues are causing the stress.
Often, simply identifying the issues can have a positive effect on stress. Once the problem is identified, the doctor can help to lay out the most effective treatment plan, which may include therapy, medication or alternative treatments.
In many cases, knowing there is someone else who is aware of the problem and doing something to help is enough to get the person suffering from stress and anxiety on the road to recovery.

In today’s fast paced environment, many people are under a lot
of stress. Women are even more susceptible to the strains of
everyday life. Some are single mothers that work full time jobs
and then come home and care for their baby. They are over
worked, underpaid and under extreme stress.

Many women go to their family doctors complaining about
headaches, lack of sleep and mood swings. The doctor will calmly
explain to them that they have stress problems, and to take a
few days off, and then prescribe them a drug to alleviate the
symptoms.

While the drugs may work in the short term, it doesn’t treat the
root problems. When you stop taking the drug, the stress will
still be present. And who has the time to put their feet up and
relax, especially if you have a toddler causing mayhem at home?

So what are the alternatives?

Well there are many and we will explore a few of them in this
article, but the first thing you have to do is figure out the
cause of your stress. Stress can be caused by many things. What
is stressful to one person can be joyful for the next. For
instance, speaking in public can cause some people a lot of
anxiety, but to some it is a joy.

Once you have located the reasons for your stress try to think
of ways to alleviate it. Here are some more helpful tricks and
tips for managing stress levels without the use of drugs.

Take a Deep Breath: The reason why stress causes headaches in a
lot of cases is because when a person is under significant
stress they will tend to breath shallowly, or hold their breath
without even realizing it. Your muscles then get a lack of
oxygen and you cramp up in such places like your neck and
abdomen and you get a headache. Sometimes it just makes you feel
uptight.

If you feel a headache coming on, or you feel uptight, stop and
check your breathing. Take a few minutes to rest and take deep
breaths through your nose and out through your mouth.

Talk to People: Being lonely is a terrible thing, and this can
cause stress all by itself. Try joining a club or something you
enjoy that will connect you to other people. Sometimes just
talking and having fun can do wonders for your stress problems.

Regular Exercise: It has been scientifically proven that
exercise helps relieve stress. Try joining a gym, or just going
for a walk each night. You will boost your energy level making
it easier to cope with the stress of daily life.

Managing Time: Nothing causes stress like being late for an
appointment. Avoid this unnecessary stress by planning your day.
Insure that you have enough time to get to all of your
appointments. Maybe invest in a day planner.

Body Break: Your mind and body are one. Make sure that you eat
proper nutritious meals, and sleep well at night. Avoid excess
sugar and caffeine. These foods will give you a temporary high,
but will cause you to crash later. A body that is properly
maintained will be better able to cope with stress.

Avoid The Use of Illegal Drugs: Many people turn to alcohol and
drugs to relieve their stress. While it may seem that these
things are helping with your stress they are really harming you.
Not only are they wrecking your body, but they are only a
temporary fix. When you wake up in the morning, the problem that
you were trying to escape will still be there.

Change Your Surroundings: Make sure that you are as comfortable
as possible. If your chair at work is causing your back to hurt,
change it. If your bed is causing backache and lack of sleep,
change it. Why put your mind and body under stress that can be
easily avoided.

Go to Your Happy Place: Try daydreaming for a minute if you feel
stressed out. Imagine a sunny beach, or a quiet cottage. Imagine
the tastes and sounds. A few minutes of imagined vacation can do
wonders for your mental outlook, and relieve stress.

These are just a few techniques that will help you cope with
your stress levels. Try concentrating on the positive aspects of
your life, and not the negative. Without some stress life would
be boring, but too much of anything can kill you.
